Lenten Reading for March 2

When Abraham’s trust seemed to falter, God invited him to come out from his tent and gaze up into the night sky. Abraham and Sarah in their old age were without a child, and Abraham was tempted to despair. God said that Abraham’s descendents would be more numerous than the stars. (Genesis 15)

Part of what faith involves is realizing that there is a much bigger picture than the little one we can see. Sometimes taking a few moments to contemplate the great creation to which we are connected can take us out of the self-absorption that can so trip us up in life.

Today, let us try and find some way to “look up into the stars”. Be open to moments of awe that invite us to catch a glimpse of the big picture in which we each have a part to play.
